3. Set Healthy Boundaries

Sometimes it can feel like our mental health is out of our control. Our friends, families, bosses, and coworkers all have expectations for us. As men, we feel immense pressure to meet and exceed everyone’s expectations. 

However, setting boundaries is crucial for maintaining your mental health. Set clear, healthy boundaries with your time at work and with friends. If somebody makes you feel disrespected or uncomfortable, politely limit your interactions with them. 

4. Connect and Communicate

After setting boundaries against the things that harm you, find more of the things that help you. Connect with friends and family members who encourage you to take care of yourself and express your emotions. 

Make consistent efforts to communicate with people you trust. Talk to your partner, friends, and trusted family members about your mental health. These people want to support you and guide you through the good times and bad.

Expressing emotions is not a sign of weakness. On the contrary, opening up to others will make you a stronger man. 

5. Meet the Pros

Many men fear the “T” word: therapy. A therapist is more than just a “paid friend.” They are a designated third party, meaning you can tell them almost anything without judgment or consequence.

Think of a therapist as a mental health coach. They provide techniques and strategies to help you win in the game of life. 

Psychiatrists are another helpful player on your team. Psychiatrists will help you diagnose any mental health issues and prescribe medications to help you regain control. Talking to a professional is crucial to building strong mental health, no matter which route you decide to take.
